Scrapbooking Christmas Poems
Terrific additions to any Christmas-themed scrapbook content are
Christmas poems. Short and sweet or long and sentimental, Christmas
poems are sure to invoke holiday cheer. You can use verses you find in
books, online, in Christmas carols, and so on. As long as you are
sure to notate the author and do not duplicate it for commercial use
(for legal reasons, of course) then generally you are good to go.
Sources:
Another great resource for Christmas poems to include in your
scrapbook is close family and loved ones. Is there a writer in the
family? Have them put together a few of their own Christmas poems for
inclusion in the family’s scrapbook. Do you have young aspiring writers in
the family? Great! Have them write out their poems by hand on
portions of the scrapbook which you reserve for poems. This
is a keepsake that would make any mother or grandparent very proud.
Be Creative:
After you have assembled the Christmas poems you then must decide
what type of canvas or medium to display them on in your scrapbook.
You could simply write your poems out onto nice (and perhaps colored)
paper and cut it into decorative shapes and paste it into your
scrapbook.
If you are like me, and not as confident in your calligraphy
skills, you can always type your poems out into a word processing
program on your computer and then print them off and use them as
desired. If you choose this option, you can include special
colors, fonts, and even effects that you probably could not achieve by
hand. Using this technique, you can even include clip art and other
interesting Christmas figures or symbols. Be creative!
If you opted for the other suggestion, and choose to print out your
own text, you will probably want to find a way to ‘jazz’ up the
appearance of your Christmas poems. You can choose holiday-themed
shapes, and using construction paper or another colored paper of your
choice, cut the shapes out and then print your poems out on them.
Family Tree:
One impressive holiday layout that I have seen using both pictures
and text is the “Christmas Family Tree”. It is created with a green
tree and colored ornaments cut from construction paper and pasted into
the page section (or entire page, if desired). Each of the ornaments
are used as a background border for pictures of family and friends cut
into rounded shapes and pasted into them.
After you have cut and pasted your tree,
place ornaments onto the page
using the appropriate number of ornaments in relation to the amount of
pictures you would like pasted into the tree. Be sure to remember to
leave space for semi-circular text on each branch level of the tree.
Once the tree, ornaments, pictures, and any other items of decoration
have been cut and pasted, then you can begin to write out your
Christmas poem onto the branch sections.
I would suggest, since the amount of writing space is limited, that
you trace the outline of your tree onto a separate piece of paper and
practice writing out your text into the area available. I usually count
how many words on each level I am able to write in the space provided
and duplicate the text into the same sections on the finished tree.
This prevents you from over or under spacing with the words, and also
ensures that you can fit all of them into the tree’s content.
After the basic structure of your tree has been created, then you
can begin adding the personal touches of your liking. For example, if
there were a small child in the family, a picture of a baby pasted as
the angel on the top of the tree with a halo drawn over their head
would be precious. Any additions are wonderful. Just be sure not to
overstate them and cause the Christmas poems to become difficult to
read.
Label your tree as so desired and close the book once the glue has
dried adequately.
This technique is just one of many that can be used to
integrate
Christmas poems into holiday scrapbooking. Christmas poems offer an
interesting and unique way to promote the Christmas spirit throughout
the holiday layout without taking attention away from the pictures and
memories of the holidays themselves. Happy scrapbooking!
